London-based action comedy Polite Society follows Ria Khan: an ambitious Muslim girl with her sights set on breaking the mould to become Britain’s premier female Martial Artist.

Blending tropes of both the Bollywood and martial arts genres, Polite Society is an empowering and playful tale of rebellion and sisterhood that sees Ria fighting to save her older sister, Lena (Umbrella Academy’s Ritu Arya), from impending marriage.

I remember my first job with UVE, I was working as an Extra in a feature film called Polite Society. We were shooting a fight scene with all the Extras around the sides cheering it on, then suddenly the director started calling my name. Perhaps she had remembered me from the previous day working. I didn’t know what to think, then she said ‘how would you like to be kicked in the face?’ and I replied ‘yes, I’m up for that’, and so, I got my first featured role, creating a comedic scene. I remember practicing with the stunt double that was on set at the time to make it look as real as I could. Still one of my funniest and most memorable experiences on set, and it was even better when it came out in cinemas, and I got to hear the audience chuckle and laugh at the funny moment. Thank you UVE, so much fun!
